Meet Melanie

Welcome to Check Speech & Language! I’m Melanie Check, a passionate pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with a love for music and connection.

My journey began at Michigan State University, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts and Humanities with a Minor in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. Later, I honed my skills further by obtaining a Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from Wayne State.

6+ years of experience

I have experience with a wide range of disorder areas including language, articulation, pragmatics, and stuttering. I also have experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

I have worked with hundreds of kids ranging from preschool to high-school in the general education setting and in center-based programs. Additionally, I have been providing teletherapy services for middle-school and high-school aged students.

Speech and Language Services

Teletherapy Sessions

My 35 minute teletherapy sessions include 30 minutes of direct therapy with up to 5 minutes of parent/caregiver communication at the end of each session. Sessions are tailored to each child and designed to maximize engagement and progress.

Informal Assessment

My informal assessments (up to 45 minutes) may include: articulation screening, language screening, parent questionnaire/interview, developmental history, child interview, communication sample, etc. This will provide a deeper understanding of your child’s overall communication skills, allowing me to create goals to meet their communication needs.

*Can include an "Informal Evaluation Report" for an additional fee.
