Welcome to Check Speech & Language! I’m Melanie Check, a passionate pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with a love for music and connection.

My journey began at Michigan State University, where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the Arts and Humanities with a Minor in Communicative Sciences and Disorders. Later, I earned my Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Wayne State University.

6+ years of experience

I have experience with a wide range of eligibility areas including expressive and receptive language, articulation, phonological disorders, pragmatics, stuttering, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

I have worked with hundreds of students ranging from preschool to high-school in the general education setting and in center-based programs. Additionally, I have been providing teletherapy services for middle-school and high-school aged students.

Speech and Language Services

Teletherapy Sessions

My 35 minute teletherapy sessions include 30 minutes of direct therapy with up to 5 minutes of parent/caregiver communication at the end of each session. Sessions are tailored to each child and designed to maximize engagement and progress.

Informal Assessments

My informal assessments (up to 45 minutes) may include: articulation screening, language screening, parent questionnaire/interview, developmental history, child interview, communication sample, an "Informal Evaluation Report," etc. This will provide a deeper understanding of your child’s overall communication skills, allowing me to create goals to meet their communication needs.
